The Academy of Magical Arts (home of the world-famous Magic Castle) is the most unique private clubhouse in the world. We are looking for a part-time Barback. Barbacks are responsible for preparing and servicing bars throughout the Castle. Additionally, barbacks assist Bartenders to ensure they have everything they need to serve guests, members and performers efficiently. Their duties include replacing kegs, restocking glasses and other supplies needed to make drinks and maintain cleanliness of bar areas throughout their shift. Reliability is essential, as consistent attendance is a critical aspect of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but are not limited to the following: Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Keep the bar stocked with liquor, syrups, glasses, napkins and all other necessary items before and during service hours
• Prepare the bars by cutting, slicing and peeling perishable garnishes and fruits, mixing and pouring juices and storing back-up supplies in prescribed containers
• Check with and assist the bartenders to stock and maintain the bar to include, but not limited to, paper products, straws and stirrers, condiments, glassware, ice, alcohol and produce.
• Transport, replace and perform routine maintenance on beer kegs and soda bibs
• Maintain cleanliness of glassware, bar area, liquor room, refrigerators, stairwells, walkways and storage areas in accordance with federal, state, local and company codes

Minimum Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

• The ability to understand and speak English well enough to comprehend basic requests and respond to them clearly.
• Availability to work nights and weekends on a flexible schedule.
• Excellent multitasking skills with a focus on detail.
• Ability to stay calm and professional under pressure.
• Genuine service-oriented attitude.
• One (1) year of previous barback experience is a plus.

• Physical Stamina: Possessing the strength and endurance to perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, stocking bars, and replacing kegs throughout a shift.

Physical demands:

• The ability to read and understand written English safety notices and instructions.
• The ability to grasp, lift, carry, or otherwise transport up to 50 lbs. through a crowded area.
• The ability to move or push a hand cart/truck weighing up to 200 lbs.
• The ability to move quickly and efficiently throughout the work area, which may involve navigating stairs.
